Once again it is time for Blue White Roundtable. Mike from Black Shoe Diaries came up with this week’s questions.
1. Besides the fact that we’re 3-2, what has been the biggest disappointment this year?
Anthony Morelli is a huge disappointment. He has regressed as a quarterback and the indications are he was never a leader. I am not oppossed to him being benched this week, unlike Joe Paterno. At the very least, he should be on a very short leash.
2. After the Michigan game the play calling was under heavy scrutiny against Illinois. Late in the third quarter with Penn State trailing by seven points, the Nittany Lions had a third and goal from the one yard line. They elected to pitch the ball to Rodney Kinlaw over left tackle and the play lost two yards. Then on fourth and goal from the three they elected to kick a field goal. How would you evaluate the play calling on these two plays?
Oh all the times to call a pitch, this was not the ideal one. I have hard time getting too upset because it is reasonable for the defense to expect a run up the middle. I also don’t mind the field goal attempt because going down there and getting nothing would be even more demoralizing I think.
3. Is there anything positive we can take out of the Illinois game?
The defense adjusted well after the half. Jeremey Boone is a good punter who will will some games for PSU down the road.
LIGHTNING ROUND
Who should be the starting quarterback against Iowa?
This is a moot point since Morelli is the starter as long as he has eligibility and is healthy. I think the better question is what quarterback should go in his place in event of injury, Daryl Clark or Pat Devlin.
Joe Must Go! Yes or No?
I sound like Jesse Jackson — the point is moot, he’s here for as long as he wants to be.
Iowa Prediction?
Bounce back win, not pretty and led by the defense who scores at least once. Let’s say 20-12
