Obviously, I want the Nats to take this upcoming series more than any other. I stated why earlier last week and for about four years.
The other rivalries I get excited for are the Phillies and Pirates because of friends who cheer for those teams. For the former, there is the annual Cheesesteak/Half-Smoke Challenge and the latter we usually bet a bottle from the top shelf since a traditional mayor’s bet of foodstuffs is not that practical right now. Someday, we should be able to get a Ben’s Half-Smoke vs. Primanti’s wager going, though.
The Braves and Marlins don’t do anything for me since I don’t see Atlanta as a “peer” city or know any Georgians and who can take a teal team seriously. I don’t get too into the Mets rivalry, though it might be getting hotter, because as a Yankees fan I am naturally inclined to be dismissive of the team from Flushing.
By the way, the series between Washington and Baltimore should be called the Battle of the Beltways, not Beltway.
