Both tabloids had the same idea for the cover — New York Climbs in a gothic typeface similar to the old gray lady’s flag (not masthead, as it is mistakenly called). I appreciate the Daily News one more because it included the definite article.

Apparently, designers of the relatively new New York Times building had not considered how easy it would be to climb the 52-story skyscraper (The Times) at 8th and 41st. Two climbers, one a stuntman from France and the other from Brooklyn, both did it on the same day.
