If you happen to be in Harvard Square today and see a tall, skinny guy in a Phillies hat looking despondent, let me tell you why. The Nationals defeated the Phillies last night, 4-3 to end a 12-game losing streak. The victory also set up the inevitable reversal of fortunes that will see the Nats take the last six games of their season series against the Fleas to finish 10-8 against Philladelphia’s ball club. That tall skinny guy, realizes that last night’s game changed the whole season and come September 28, he will be wondering what could have been. He’ll also have to figure out the logistics of buying me that cheesesteak when he’d rather be eating a Ben’s half-smoke. So if you see that guy, be kind he’s had a tough night of baseball and it is only going to get worse in the next 40 days.
