So, did Ted Lerner tell Dmitri Young that “fat, drunk and stupid diabetic and lazy is no way to go through life son?” I like to think so, but in all likelihood, no one said any such thing and Jim Bowden merely designated Young for assignment at AAA Syracuse. Young could have declined the offer and become a free agent, but with $5 million coming to him from the Nationals there was no way he would say now. As fun as Young was in 2007 when he won comeback player of the year, the only thing more bloated than his gut in 2008 was the stupid 2 year, $10 million contract that Bowden gave him. Who knows, maybe Da Meathook will bounce back and beomce productive again, but the odds are not good.
Oh and we now know who will be invited to throw out the first pitch at the home opener. Of course, he is going to be invited to New York (twice), not too mention the Southside of Chicago.
