Web Producer Suits Up As Backup Goaltender for Capitals – The Post
The Capitals “#1” goaltender, Jose Theodore has a lower-body injury which means Brent Johnson got the start last night. Johnson was out of his mind the other night, so this was not a big deal. However, none of the goalies in the minors could get to Washington in time for last night’s game against Ottawa. The solution to this problem was to tell Capitals Web producer Brett Leonhardt to “be ready.” Leonhardt played Division III hockey and has on occasion practiced with the Caps to give the pros a rest. Officially, they worked with the NHL on this and signed him to an amateur tryout. He was relieved by Simeon Varlamov about halfway through the first and resumed his Web producer duties.
This kind of story is a lot fun when the team is in first place. They won, 5-1, last night too.
Oh and Leonhardt wore #80. He is the only Capital to ever wear that number.
