THOMAS BOSWELL – Can’t Wait To Be Great – The Post
“They are a great team. I think they are ready now. They can make that step up anytime,” said Murray, who coached with his brother Bryan, then after him, for 10 years in Washington. “What they did in the third period against us is the level they need to reach consistently in the playoffs. But to get there, their young players have to take over ownership of that team.”
This was coming off a game where’s Murray’s Kings defeated the Capitals. I think he is right though, the Capitals have the players to go very far, they just need to realize it. That realization will prevent sloppy defeats like the one against L.A. when the Caps did not show up for the first two periods, but nearly pulled off a win anyway.
Last night, behind the most offensive defenseman in the league, Mike Green, the Capitals beat division rival Florida on the sloppy ice (Japers Rink) of Verizon Center. Green had the game-winner and an empty-netter to clinch it. The Caps finally had a 100% penalty kill too.
