School meeting to appeal wins verdict – ESPN
Whether Jim or Bobby, there is always room for giving a hard time to people named Bowden on this blog. Florida State used a bunch of ineligible athletes a few years ago and is getting penalized for it.
If Florida State loses the appeal, it could affect as many as 14 wins for the football team, which would put coach Bobby Bowden’s quest to end his career as the all-time winningest coach in serious jeopardy. Bowden, who is entering his 34th season at Florida State, currently has 382 career wins, one shy of Penn State coach Joe Paterno.
Of course, that is an inflated total for Bobby Bowden since something like 30 wins came at non-FBS Howard College which is now known as Samford.
This could ultimately bring an end to Bowden’s career sooner than he would like. Will that make Joe Paterno more likely to step down with the all-time wins record secure?
Not bloody likely.
