Young Set to Make 40-Man Roster – The Post
The Nationals are adding 320 lbs of deadwood to the 40 man roster because of a handshake agreement DH* Dmitri Young deposed GM Jim Bowden. The club apparently decided it was important to honor that even though Young has not honored the spirit of his contract, if not worse. Sorry, Kory Kasto and Mike O’Connor, we know you tried very hard to make it, but we’re going go with a fat, old guy instead. No, you weren’t going to be superstars or even long-term starters, but you at least put forth a good faith effort and did not eat your way into oblivion.
I don’t doubt that having diabetes is a terrible thing, but lots of people take that diagnosis as a motivation to change their life and take care of themselves. Many of them don’t even have a $10 million contract to help them make that change like you do Young.
Yet another example of the damage done by Bowden — protecting his buddies rather than taking care of the franchise. Shame on the Lerners for employing him so long, they deserve 102 loss seasons for their shortsighted management, but we fans and the District of Columbia deserve better.
*The Nationals League, which the Nationals belong to, does not use the DH.
