This morning Nationals president Stan Kasten announced that Mike Rizzo will assume the duties of general manager, but not the title. Officially, search for a new GM is on, but there seems little urgency. I am inferring that this means the job is Rizzo’s to lose. The rest of the front office will remain in their same roles.

How all of today’s events impact the contract negotiations with Ryan Zimmerman has yet to be seen. I stumbled on Kasten on Idiot Elliot in the Morning today and it sounded like Kasten was the pointman on that process. A goal of Opening Day was set.
