Good morning! This afternoon we get the first of 81 scheduled National League baseball games in the Nation’s Capital. Game time between our Nationals and the defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies is 3:05 p.m. Tickets are apparently still available.
The Nats have yet to win this season (The Post), starting 0-6 (The Wash. Times) after dropping another game to Atlanta yesterday. Do we have a “curse of the good looking road jerseys” on our hands?
President Barrack Obama will apparently not be throwing out the first pitch , though Time reports that he will be in the neighborhood at the Department of Transportation with Vice President Joe Biden. Probably ought to plan for extra security lines just in case.
The neighborhood around Nationals Park has not improved much due to the economic downturn. There are some new things as reported by the always excellent JD Land: Near SE Redevelopment Improvement to the area should occur during the season though. The closest entertainment options are cover bey the Going Out Gurus and FJB.
Going to the game or any other this year — might want to check out this transportation information.
The 4th Annual Cheesesteak/Half-Smoke Challenge (logo pending), a wager based on the season series between the Nats and Phillies is on as well. Matthew took the last two years, while I took the inaugural season.
Despite all the doom and gloom, I am still very excited for today. It is a pleasant, if cool morning and I am going to another Nationals Opening Day in Washington D.C. This will be the fourth consecutive one I am going to — Fritz has been to all of them as well. In 2005, we went to Philly for the first Nationals game ever. I can’t help but smile.
We will probably be pre-gaming at the Red Porch with other Nats bloggers and sitting in section 416.
