Revived Bullpen Helps Nationals Win Second Straight – The Post
Hanrahan gets job done – The Wash. Times
The Nationals have now won two in a row with a comeback victory over Atlanta. The game ended with two Braves on base and Joel Hanrahan throwing a fastball after a mound conference saying it was going to be a slider. The pitch, hit off of Yunel Escobar’s bat, went right to 2B Anderson Hernandez and the game was over. Hanrahan got his second save of the year and the Nats got their third win. Shairon Martis (2-0) earned the victory with six inning of work, including a disastrous 3 run first inning. He settled down and had another quality start. The offense got a run in the third and three more in the six. Adam Dunn homered again too.
Can you believe Washington is fourth in the majors in pitches per plate appearance with 4.04? Dunn also leads the league in walks, though I expect that to change as the rest of the lineup becomes more feared.
Beimel Is Placed on DL, Ending Rivera’s Demotion – The Post
Beimel suffers strained hip, placed on DL – The Wash. Times
A strained strained left hip flexor has put the only, to date, reliable member of the bullpen Joe Beimel on the DL. Saul Rivera, who had not even left for Syracuse yet, got his roster spot back.
Mayor, City Council no longer playing hardball over Nats tickets – WTOP
This is a misleading headline, but do you even care?
Just another reason, every trip to Nationals Park amazes me, I can’t believe it got built with these knuckleheads running the show.
THOMAS BOSWELL – Getting Their Z’s May Wake Up Nats – The Post
Boswell writes what I have been thinking, “hey, it isn’t as bad as it looks.” Unfortunately, the several really positive things (Jim Bowden resigning, Adam Dunn signings, Ryan Zimmerman’s contract, Jordan Zimmermann’s debut) have been lost amongst blown leads, NATINALS, and player tardiness. Okay, that is a lot of things but I really think things are getting better.
