One thing that has changed about this dreadful start to the Nationals season is that ownership is starting to spend money. Adam Dunn got a big, albeit discount contract and now Ryan Zimmerman has been signed for five years. The face of the franchise backed of his no negotiating during the season pledge and celebrated his unusually decent start at the plate this year with 5 years and $45 million. The contract starts right now, overriding his one year $3 million plus contract signed to avoid arbitration this winter. It seems like a good contract for both sides, Zimmerman gets paid right now and only buys out two years of free agency. For the Nats, it is an not anchor on everything if Zimmerman does not go to the next level.
