THOMAS BOSWELL:Strasburg Signing Is Washington’s Baseball Redemption – The Post
Boswell is giddy and back to the “Lerners aren’t cheap, now what they are doing” phase that was probably last seen when Adam Dunn was signed.
Let’s not go overboard with talk of “redemption” since they merely did what they were supposed to do last night. I would have gone nuts if they had not.
JEFF PASSAN: Good isn’t good enough for Strasburg – Yahoo
Where does Passan get this idea?
Anything short of transcendence and he’s just another mistake on the Washington Nationals’ log…
Not really, it would be unfortunate, but not a backbreaker for the franchise. They spent less on Strasburg than they did on Cristian Guzman’s two contracts and somehow we survived year 1 of the first of those didn’t we?
When it comes down to it, D.C. fans are not looking for a baseball savior, just a competitive team. I won’t argue that we’re a not bandwagon sports town, but when the Nats are playing .500 at the All Star Break, they will draw fairly well and if better than that, they’ll draw really well me thinks. Putting the savior tag on Strasburg is unfair to him and simply not grounded in the reality of D.C. sports.
