BOSTON — I don’t know why Prudential decided to build their skyscraper in the Back Bay neighborhood, but it seems to have worked out. The Pru is the second tallest building in the city, but if the mast is included, it reaches the highest elevation. It is easily the dominant feature of the skyline from the west, but also from the north and probably the south (I didn’t come up that way this time). From the east however, it is “hidden.”
The design of The Pru isn’t anything terribly special. If the Skywalk section at the top wasn’t there, it wouldn’t be much to look at. That little top and the mast attached to it make all the difference, giving The Pru an iconic place in the Boston skyline.
