Remember when I advocated that Washington Nationals fans write-in Tony Plush, Nyjer Morgan‘s alter ego in the Bobblehead Sweepstakes be ? Let’s just say, I’m glad my advice was ignored — fans chose Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez for the 3rd and final bobblehead promotion of the season.
The Tony Plush choice was sound at the time, you know before he started getting caught on the bases 40% of the time (when he could actually get on) and letting flyballs go over his head. Pudge on the other hand exceeded expectations early in the year and help carry the Nats to a 20-15 record.
Meanwhile, the news about the man Pudge was brought into replace is not good. Jesus Flores, once thought the catcher of the future for the Nats had a setback (Nationals Journal, The Post) in his rehabilitation from a torn labrum. He probably won’t be back in 2010.
