The End Of The RoadThe Springfield Connection
It took about 50 years, but the Fairfax County Parkway (secondary route 7100) is now completed. The final stretch between Rolling Road and Interstate 95 opened yesterday morning. There are still interchanges that need to be built for Fort Belvoir, but it is now possible to get on the parkway at US 1 west of Mount Vernon and take it all the way to VA 7 in Dranesville. The last segment was delayed for over a decade by the Army, but with BRAC coming, it got built in less than 3 years.

UPDATE: Oddly enough, I was down that way with a few minutes to drive around. You can’t get onto 7100 North from I-95 South and the open sections of that parkway are not well signed yet.
