Privitaizing Virginia liquor sales is very challenging

McDonnell’s push to privatize Va. liquor stores could add tax on drinks in barsThe Post
As Gov. Bob McDonnell continues to investigate privatizing the sale of liquor in the commonwealth of Virginia, the challenges to doing so keep mounting. One way to help offset the revenue loss may be a tax on individual cocktails. The theory is the consumer won’t really feel a pinch because the cost of the liquor to the restaurant/bar will be less.

Moving from a control state to privatization has been difficult for other states; many of them lose so much revenue that it takes years to catch up. It is a good idea, it just hasn’t worked yet.
