I cannot decide if the 24-3 score is worse than it looks or better than it looks. I guess that is what happens when you fall asleep in the fourth quarter. I missed the last Iowa touchdown.
Rob Bolden has poise, blah, blah, blah. What he really needs is wideouts who can catch the ball. In the first half, there were about 4 drops that killed drives. At one point he was 6-16 passing, but should have been 10-16. He finished 20-37, not great by modern standards. C’mon, give the true frosh a break.
I thought the offensive gameplan was pretty aggressive for Penn State on the road, but the execution was just not there. Will this make Joe Paterno go conservative on the road from here on out?
Rolling Bolden out worked out okay and kept him from getting killed from the Iowa defensive line.
The red zone offense is just terrible right now and that falls on the coaches and to a lesser extent, Bolden. Two drives in a row made it inside the 5 yard line and all Penn State got was 3 points. The clock management issues of the dark years seem to have returned. That cost Penn State a play at the end of the 1st half. They may have had to settle for a field goal attempt either way, but I’d rather they get the play off.
The game was over when Bolden didn’t score on 4th and goal.
How many times have we seen the Penn State defense give up early scores on the road and then settle down by the end of the 1st quarter? How many times has it been too late?
After the first few Hawkeyes series, the Lions defense seemed to either tackle Iowa running backs a yard behind the line or 9 yards downfield.
I lost count of the bad Anthony Fera punts.
Artificial turf Iowa? Shameful.
The Hawkeyes still look more like the Pittsburgh Steelers than the Steelers do though. My wife gets sick of me saying that every year.
This is the last trip the Nittany Lions will take to Iowa for a long time. Good.
The Penn State Football Story hasn’t been updated on youtube yet. Amazing how that tends to happen when the Nittany Lions lose.
Next week, Ron Zook and Illinois for Homecoming. Is Juice Williams still around?
