Penn State football: Joe Paterno has not released Rob Bolden

Rob Bolden responds: QB ‘upset’ about JoePa denying transfer releaseAltoona Mirror
Rob Bolden and his father Robert Bolden Sr. met with Joe Paterno yesterday with the hope and expectation that Paterno would release the freshmen from his scholarship. Bolden, upset that he was removed from the starting quarterback job and not given a chance to reclaim it when his replacement Matt McGloin struggled, wants to leave the program. I cannot blame him, but I think the move is shortsighted. Paterno apparently feels the same way and doesn’t want to lose QB depth either, so he won’t let Bolden go. Both Boldens talked to Cory Giger last night about the situation, so we’ve only heard their side of the story. I don’t expect Paterno to address it publicly.

Bolden’s mother, Tonia Williams wants him back at Penn State (Post-Gazette) and so do I. Bolden should have replaced McGloin during the last two games, but I think we’re past the point of no return in this situation. At best, Paterno can achieve a Pyrrhic victory here by dragging this out, I think Bolden is a goner and the longer this goes on, the worse it will be for all involved.
