Nats beat Phillies to reach .500

It figures that a really satisfying win by the Washington Nationals is one I don’t get to blog about right away. When you have a young child in the house, things like blogging are at the mercy of their sleep schedule. I called for the reverse lock yesterday and it happened. Yay.

I’m happy that Jayson Werth got a homer and a double. He got booed all night by Phillies fans which was expected.

¡LIVAN! pitched into the 7th, got himself in a bases loaded jam, but got the second out via strikeout, his sixth. That was it for him, but it was a strong outing that yielded him his first win of 2011. He also knocked in a run with a bunt because he saw Ryan Howard playing back. So, yes, this is why we love ¡LIVAN!

The Nats took advantage of the one “vulnerability” in the Phillies rotation, Joe Blanton. They did it with a terrible lineup (Mr. Irrelevant) too.

If the Nats can win either of the next two games against Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee, it’ll be an outright robbery with the lineup.

5-5 is a pretty good start for this team, but they have a lot of work and not a lot of firepower to sustain it.

I’m now 1-0 in the 2011 Cheesesteak/Half-Smoke challenge. Nine more wins and I win a cheesesteak. I’m not holding my breath, I expect to be paying up with a half-smoke for the 5th consecutive season.
