A night after coming back to beat the Atlanta Braves in extra innings, the Washington Nationals fell 6-5 in the 10th inning. A 11 strikeouts start by Jordan Zimmermann was nullified. While Doug Slaten gets the loss for giving up the winning run in the third inning he pitched, the goat is Sean Burnett who gave up a grand slam after Zimmermann allowed the first two runners on in the 7th.
Had the Nats not blown a 4-run lead, they would have swept the Braves, gone 5-4 on the roadtrip and come home a game over .500. The bright side — after getting swept out of Philly, they won their next two series.
The Nats host the Florida Marlins tonight at 7:05 and then at 1:05 and 1:35 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, the beginning of a difficult stretch of the schedule.
