John Lannen > John Lannan; Nats take Phillies series

Washington Nationals starter John Lannan entered yesterday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies having never beat them in 14 starts. He had a 0-10 record against them dating back to 2007. His debut, when we learned that he was an American hero was his only game against the Phillies the Nats ever won. He was ejected in that game and did not get a decision. Since then, nothing but losing.

Yesterday, it was reported that Lannan’s name was misspelled on the lineup. This is not the first time this has happened, this season. I was critical of this rather typical Nats error, but then Lannan went out and won. So, long live John Lannen?

Oddly enough, none of the beat writers (The Post, The Wash. Times, The Wash. Examiner, nationals.com) appeared to ask Lannan about the misspelling. How can you not ask? UPDATE: Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) of The Wash. Examiner replied to my tweet and indicated they asked. It just didn’t make it into any of the gamers today.

Laynce Nix was awesome yesterday — he made this diving catch (video, nationals.com) and hit the game winning homer in the 3rd inning.

Good series for the Nats, they scored 4 runs off of Roy Halladay, beat Cliff Lee (5 runs) and finally beat Roy Oswalt. On to Arizona for a damn West Coast trip.

Oh and at least one Phillies blog is taking the loss to Lannan…well. So, is this one.
