Last night, the Washington Nationals won a one-run game against the Chicago Cubs, final score 3-2. The last time they won a nine inning game by more than one run — June 18 against the Baltimore Orioles. Since then, they have gone 9-7 and won by more than a run in extra innings once. Crazy stuff. They are now 16-15 in one run games and 44-43 overall.
The Nats mixed it up last night by “winning early” with 3 runs off of former Nat Ramon Ortiz in the first inning. That was it and they hung on behind 5 1/3 innings of Ross Detwiler starting pitching. Detwiler gave up a Aramis Ramirez run homer.
