Apple picking at Homestead Farm in Poolesville, Md.

POOLESVILLE, Md. — This year, our annual apple-picking outing was at Homestead Farm.

While it was rainy and cold the day we went, this weekend is supposed to be spectacular. There should still be a fair number of apples and pumpkins to pick from there — there were plenty of green apples on the trees then and the last 4 days of sunshine has probably ripened many of them. There is a bit of a walk from the parking area and entrance to the orchard, but there are plenty of wheelbarrows to cart the apples/kids around in. Apples go for $1.49 per pound. To get the pumpkins, a $3 per person hayride is offered out to the pumpkins fields. You can pick your own right off the vines. Pumpkins go for 59¢ a pound.

I have photos, but still need to get them on flickr. Once I do, I’ll add them.
