Turn-out has been strong for the first two weeks of Wharf broomball. The original text is below:
In big news, courtesy of Capitol Broomball (Twitter | Facebook), the new Wharf development, on the District’s Southwest Waterfront will have Tuesday night broomball n’ brews in January at their new outdoor rink. Capitol Broomball will have members there to play, officiate and spread the good news about the sport.

In November, I went to Capitol Broomball pickup game at Fort Dupont Arena in Southeast. Good times. They will probably host another one in February after their winter league season ends. Perhaps another season, I’ll join.
For the uninitiated, broomball is similar to hockey with shoes instead of skates, a ball instead of a puck and “brooms” instead of sticks. When I first played broomball as a Penn State undergrad, we used actual brooms. Now, they are plastic paddles on lacrosse sticks. It’s very fun, but exhausting. Stretch out very well ahead of time.
Arlington
Turn out was disappointing for the December broomball events. However, Kettler Capitals Iceplex is hosting broomball (all ages) on Sunday, February 4 at 11:30 a.m.
Previous dates
Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington (on top of the Ballston mall shopping garage) has several broomball slots in December on the weekends. I expect to be there. I have played there several times over the years, including last month. The more people who show up, the more often the Iceplex will offer rinks.
