2023 DC Kayaking: More locations opening April 1

Public parks around Washington, D.C. are opening up kayak rentals on April 1. Last weekend, District Wharf (Boating in DC) opened.

Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority

Residents of Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun counties and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax are charged a lower rate. Kayaks are rented first come, first serve.

Prince George’s County

Online reservations must be made 24 hours in advance. Walk-up rentals are possible assuming boat availability.

Chesapeake Bay

Private operators closer to or on the Bay are also opening up.

  • Annapolis Canoe and Kayak is open year round with requirements for dry suits when the water is below 50 degrees and wet suits between 50 and 60.
  • The Rod ‘N’ Reel Marina located in Chesapeake Beach will be open daily starting April 1.

More mid-month

Several private operators are expected to resume rentals the third weekend of April. Most if not all operators will open no later than Memorial Day weekend.
