STADIUM HEAD PROFILED
Head of Stadium Project Has His Eye on the Clock – The Post
Allen Y. Lew, chief executive of the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission is profiled. He previously worked on the new Convention Center, which had it’s share of cost overruns, but opened on time. Also, the cost of renovating RFK went up because they will have less time to get it done and will have to pay OT to workers. This was of course caused by the council constantly delaying the legislation.
NADER SPEAKS ON NATS AGAIN
Ralph Nader – Green Bay on the Potomac: Why D.C. Should Own the Nationals – The Post
After chiming in a couple of times in The Wash. Times on ballpark funding, consumer advocate, perennial presidential candidate, and District resident Ralph Nader suggests in Sunday’s Post that D.C. buy the team and illustrates how it could. He cites the Green Bay Packers and others as an example of how it can work. The upside is that the District gets to reap the rewards of building the ballpark and the threat of it moving is removed. This is not a unique idea (the Nats AA team, the Harrisburg SENATORS are owned by that city), but I doubt MLB has any interest in this sort of thing happening. While I would not mind owning a piece of the team, I do mind the chuckleheads of D.C. politics getting any more fingerprints on the franchise.
Thank you Mr. Nader, for performing the task of loyal opposition in a thoughtful, respectable manner by providing alternatives and suggestions, rather than threats of protests and shady political maneuvering. Maybe you need to run for a seat on the D.C. council instead of president.
COLLEGIAN IS BACK
Just thought I would let everyone know — especially Cliff — that I have already read The Collegian’s first edition of the semester.
