WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Nationals continued their strong start at Nationals Park, beating the Chicago White Sox, 5-2. Jordan Zimmermann pitched efficiently, giving up 2 runs over 7 innings. He threw only 90 pitches. He also escaped danger — comebackers and broken bats and was typically nonchalant about it. Another good performance for the Nats #3 starter who is now tied with Craig Stammen for wins with 2.

Adam Dunn, in his D.C. homecoming, drove in a run in the 1st inning on a groundout. It was his only offensive output of the day. He received a nice, understated welcome from the crowd.

The Nats would not get on the board until the first pitch of the 4th inning:

Bryce Harper just CRUSHED that ball. It was estimated to go 420 feet.

D.C. continued to score off of ChiSox starter Gavin Floyd. Ian Desmond doubled twice and tripled once, scoring two runs, both knocked in by Danny Espinosa. The Nats scored 2 in the 4th, 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th. The possibility of free Hard Times wings was strong, but after Jayson Werth‘s doubleplay to end the 6th, the Nats would have only one more baserunner.

Chicago added another run in the top of the 6th on a groundout.

Drew Storen and Rafael Soriano pitched scoreless innings in relief.
