MetroRewind, the DC public transit equivalent of SpotifyWrapped, is updated for 2024.
This edition takes about five minutes to get through. Stats on stations and bus lines used are displayed at the end of the online wizard.
My report
Comparing it to my own small batch artisinal data, Rewind has me at 6 fewer stations – I tracked 40 entered/transfered/exited. Transfers are not counted on Rewind because there is no SmarTrip swipe. I think I may have used a different card at some stations too. Also, bus rides where the fare collection is disabled (it’s already happened twice this year – I think twice a month was average) are counted, so I think it’s reasonable to say I had over 900 trips last year.
Seeing my ranking is also interesting – last year, I only commuted for half the year and was top 2%. Come to think of it, I didn’t even ride Metro for a lot of that because the Yellow Line was closed.
The CO2 captured is also interesting though I wonder how they calculate it and why they are using metric for that value while using miles for distance traveled.

My complete list and commentary
Like Metro pylons, other transit agencies should steal this idea. Hopefully, this and the better service we have been experincing won’t be knee-capped by the new administration. Not likely though, they hate the ideas of transit and really, cities and metropolitan areas being successful.
I bet that’s a fun project
Professionally, I’m project manager at a creative agency, so I have an idea of what the process for building this looks like. I wonder what the discovery process looked like, did they do user interviews, create personas and so on. How many rounds of revision did the wireframes go through? How many sprints, hours and user acceptance testing, etc.
Let’s hope it’s around next year too.
