The Riggleman ‘Did You Know?’ Game – Nationals Journal, The Post
I think I might have heard this back in the day:
Riggleman grew up on Scott Avenue in Rockville. He and his friends called themselves the Scott Gang. Some of the Scott Gang members have remained quite close. Eric Mills was one of the guys who grew up with Riggleman, and years later, when Eric had a son, Zack, Riggleman was the godfather. Mills ended up playing quarterback at Penn State, and remains one of the classiest athletes I’ve ever covered.
So there is the big Nats-Penn State connection.
Mills, who bravely quarterbacked the Nittany Lions during the dark years had terrible wideouts, worse linemen and a broken wing his last two seasons. I’m sure it is all worth it though, since Chico Harlan (who hates sports) says he is classy. Okay, that was a cheap shot at Harlan, but every now and then, he needs one. I linked to that 2004 article back then too.
As for Riggleman, I’m not expecting or asking for much. Mostly, he needs to get the team to be accountable to each other again. Also, he can’t overwork the young pitchers (FJB), though I doubt the front office will let him. I’m glad that he got the job instead of one of the managers in the minors. If one of them gets the job, I’d rather they get to start fresh in the spring.
