Interim manager Jim Riggleman likes his chances to be hired full time as Washington Nationals manager. The only other interviews the Nats have conducted have been with Bobby Valentine and Bob Melvin. Valentine would cost a lot of money, but potentially would have insight into Japanese players since he spent so much time managing over their. Melvin managed the Diamondbacks to the playoffs a while back. Stan Kasten said he is using this period to get insights and opinions on the team. I can’t fault that strategy, especially since they were not supposed to make any announcement during the World Series. However, the Series has been over for half a week, why keep us hanging? Riggleman expects an announcement after the general manager meetings. I don’t have a problem with Riggleman staying around, provided he learned what not to do with young arms; keep the pitch counts low Jim! We don’t want Stephen Strasburg to be another Kerry Wood.
