SUPREME COURT HELPS BALLPARK, BUT HURTS PROPERTY RIGHTS
Plans to build baseball stadium in Southeast receive a boost – The Wash. Times
The Supreme Court’s 5 – 4 ruling on Kelo v. New London probably helps the prospects of getting the ballpark built, but I am not happy with the decision. Essentially, the decision gives the government power to take seize your land in the name of private business. I am not quite sure how this matters for the ballpark, since it woud be owned by the District, but apparently it helps. In the end, this probably helps Wal-Fart and companies like them the most, if/when they can get in the pockets of government, there will be even less chance of them being stopped now. It could be your house they tear down to build a supercenter.
The Wash Times denounces the decision in this editorial.

DICK HELLER – Redskins aren’t only game now – The Wash. Times
Could the Nationals win the hearts and minds of more Washingtonians than the Redskins? In the short term, maybe, but long term, this town loves the Skins. I will be more convinced when the Nats start selling out regularly.
