Penn State, Wizards actually win basketball games!

Lions snap losing streakThe Collegian
It took 13 tries, but Penn State’s men’s basketball team finally got a Big Ten win. They upset Northwestern 81-70 in Evanston, Ill. last night. Northwestern can’t be too happy with themselves since they are on the bubble for their first NCAA tournament bid — yes there is a Big Ten team with less basketball pedigree than Penn State.

Now that the streak is over, maybe the Nittany Lions can get a couple more wins before ending this lost season.

By the way, Run Up the Score’s recent Black Shoe Diaries post about why Intercollegiate Athletics doesn’t care about men’s basketball is a must-read for Penn Staters.

Wizards beat Minnesota after trading Jamison to ClevelandThe Post
It was just a miracle night for basketball teams I sort of follow — the Washington Wizards, completely depleted of their former All-Stars, beat the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Wiz have traded away Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and Antawn Jamison this month for basically nothing more than salary cap relief. The most interesting thing is that there is only active player on the roster from 2006-2007 season. Gilbert Arenas of course, is suspended and technically, could rejoin the team.

Let’s see, Ted Leonsis is poised (we hope) to own a team completely gutted of stars — haven’t we been through this before?
