Report: MLB to accept ballpark lease

Baseball Signs Nationals Stadium LeaseThe Post
It appears the long-term prospects of the Nationals just go a LOT brighter. It looks as though the ballpark is a step closer to being completed without arbitration. MLB has surprisingly come to their senses and realized that $611 million is a lot of money Oh course, I will believe it when I see it, because after all I have said all along that following D.C. baseball is a triumph of hope over experience, but I am very excited!

Congrats also go out to Chris Needham of Capitol Punishment for being the first Nats blogger to post the great news. Taking second place is Miss Chatter, while I think I am getting the bronze.

UPDATE @ 8:12 p.m. I am going to leave the content above up as is — rambling and unedited. I want to save it for posterity to show that I was excited and in the middle of cooking dinner when I heard the good news.

After reading a little more, it turns out there is still room for the D.C. Council to screw this up, but that would seem an odd play for an organization that would like to put this behind them. MLB has tied to official approval to the bond issue, which is sensible on their part. Note to Nat Gandhi, ISSUE THE BONDS TOMORROW! No, wait, ISSUE THEM RIGHT NOW.

All and all, an interesting weekend for D.C. baseball.
