New traffic signals make it safer for pedestrians – USA Today
The HAWK (High intensity Activated crossWalK) traffic signal on Van Dorn Street near my condo was featured the story linked above. HAWK signals are getting more common now, but the one near me was the first on the East Coast. HAWK signals originated in Tucson, Arizona and have also spread to D.C. (Dr. Gridlock, The Post), Delaware, Georgia and Minnesota.
