BART RICHARDS AWARD
Every year, my College hands out the Bart Richards Award for Media Criticism. This year, the Project for Excellence in Journalism won for The State of the News Media 2004: An Annual Report on American Journalism. It is an exhaustive look at contemporary news media. The short of it — the news media is in trouble, big trouble. How reassuring for those of us in the business.
The ceremeony, which convienetly takes place on the same Metro line that I live on (or at least one of them) is held annually at the National Press Club. In addition to finding out about some excellent media criticism and thus reliving my glorious undergraduate days (when I was putting the “stud in media studies”), it is a great chance see some professors, meet some new people, and find out how the College of Communications faired (very well) over the last year.
