Today is Wednesday, so that means Carroll H. Cook (’54 Pitt) made his weekly appearance on ESPN Sportsnation. Unlike last week, he had very little to say about our gridiron heroes.
Neil (Chapel Hill, NC): Is there a realistic chance Morelli can get into the Heisman discussion. Three td passes this past weekend is not a bad start. A big performance in a high profile game against that porous ND defense would not hurt his exposure and name recognition. Having to face the juggernauts of Temple and Buffalo may well put 12-14 td passes under Morelli’s belt by the time they open conference play.
SportsNation Beano Cook: (3:08 PM ET ) Absolutely. Most teams face a Buffalo and Temple, a couple of breathers. If he goes to Michigan and has a great day, he will be in the running. First he has to beat Notre Dame, which he will do.
Whoa, whoa Antony Morelli Heisman talk? Seriously? I guess it is possible, after all Michael Robinson was not on anybody’s Heisman radar in 2005 until mid-season, but really? This reminds me of when Beano said that Mike McQuearey might be a candidate after the opening game in 1997.
I’m troubled by Beano saying Morelli will beat Notre Dame because Beano is usually precisely wrong.
That’s all Beano had to say, I was sure he would predict the score of this game, but he went with Mississippi vs. Missouri. I guess Beano figured he couldn’t miss.
