2 free learn to play events prior to the fall 2026 District Broomball season

Half-ice broomball at the St. James for Summer 2025

Good news for the broomball-curious out there – District Broomball has two learn to play events coming up before the fall season starts.

Some say broomball is to hockey as pickleball is to tennis. Maybe for the half-ice. Full-ice, is think it’s the softball of hockey is more appropriate. YMMV.

Friday, August 21

The first learn to play broomball night is at The St. James in Springfield, Va. at 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

“District Broomball is hosting a Learn to Play Broomball night, designed to introduce this crazy, fun sport to new players. This low pressure session is the perfect way to give the sport a try and to hit the ice to live your near hockey dreams! You’ll slide, fall, laugh, and maybe score a goal!”

Helmets, broomball shoes and sticks are provided. If you have knee/shin pads, bring them along.

Tuesday, September 8

A second learn to play broomball night is at Tucker Road Ice Rink in Oxon Hill, Md. at 9:30 p.m. – regular time, regular rink.

What to expect
“A quick 15-minute intro to the sport. We’ll cover the general rules and how to play the sport. Then we’ll have nearly an hour of game play.

A casual, shortened game so you can jump right in and slide on the ice.”

Equipment will also be provided.
