Angelos, MLB Still TalkingThe Post

“We are making every effort to get this matter resolved for the benefit of both teams and both communities,” Angelos said yesterday.

Since when? Surely he cannot mean October, five months is ample time to come up with a deal that helps both sides. In his mind, what constitutes the “benefit of both teams?” Ridiculous. In yesterday’s The Wash. Examiner, Jim Williams suggests that fans call the Baltimore team at (410) 685-9800 and tell them “we want our Nats TV!” Be polite of course, but make your voice heard. I will be calling soon, though we probably have to wait until Monday to get a live person.

Phil WoodNats GM high on ThriftThe Wash. Examiner
Jim Bowden was heavily influenced by mediocre-or-worse GM Syd Thrift who was run out of Baltimore on a rail. While Thrift never got a square deal with the fans up there, he didn’t get the job done either. Then again, who could working for the owner up there?

Greisinger Speaks in Present TenseThe Post
Seth Greisinger (Mclean High School, ’96) is trying to bounce back from Tommy John-surgery to become a “local boy made good.” I am pulling for him, some local flavor could be good for the team.

Nats hoping Escobar taps his potentialThe Wash. Times
In 2001, Alex Escobar was the #1 Mets prospect. He has bounced around since then and fought injuries, but Bowden thinks he could be a late bloomer. Escobar is challenging Endy Chavez for centerfield.

Ohka solid during three-inning stintThe Wash. Times
Three solid innings from Tomo Ohka in yesterday’s intrasquard scrimmage.

Russ MillerNew team should rev rivalry – But Angelos would rather whineThe Wash. Examiner
This is over a week old, I did not catch it the first time through because the Examiner is not one of those Web sites that likes to update itself “regularly.” Anyhow, you have to love this lead:

Why is Peter Angelos trying to spoil baseball in Baltimore?

I have often wondered that myself as have many fans in Charm City.

Phil SheridanSenators, Expos live again at Nats’ openerThe Inqy
This is a few days old, I did not have time to post it when it ran. It is interesting that a Philly columnist would devote so many column inches to the Nats first spring training game. I think that this can only help in our rivalry with the Phillies.

Negro Leagues thriving at Union StationThe Wash. Times
I think I will have to go take a trip up there and check it out.

USA TODAY SPORTS WEEKLY REPORTED in this week’s edition that the group lead by Stan Kasten, former president of every team in Hotlanta but the Falcons, is the front runner for buying the Nationals. Some previous USATSW predictions:

  • August 11 – Expos will play at least two seasons at RFK
  • July 8 – MLB has a bidding war going on
  • June 23 – MLB has “privately eliminated” all locations but D.C. and NOVA
