Washington Loses Lead, but Rallies for Five Runs in Eighth to Beat Atlanta: Nationals 8, Braves 6
Last night’s game was a lot of fun. The Nats scored a whole lot of runs for a change and came back after blowing a lead with a huge 8th inning rally after rattled reliever Gary Majewski, who had gone 16 innings without an earned run, gave up four runs in the eighth. Questionable calls behind the plate from the umpire contributed to Majewski’s tough inning.
Offensively, the hero was C Gary Bennett, who had five RBIs for the night with a 2 run shot in the 2nd and a 3-run double in the 8th.
Defensively, Jose Guillen made some great plays in right, including robbing Brian Jordan of a homer in the ninth.
Naturally, P Esteban Loaiza pitched pretty well and did not get the win. He left after six with a 3 – 2 lead. Closer Chad Cordero had an uncharacteristic 1-2-3 ninth inning, which included Guillen’s great catch at the fence.

Cropp Still Hopeful of Private Financing – The Post
D.C. Council Leader Willing to Back Cost-Effective Public Funding of Stadium
Guess who’s back? If you were wondering when we would hear from D.C. Council Chairman Linda Cropp again, wonder no more. She is still trying to find private financing for the ballpark construction. How noble of her to back a publicly financed ballpark if it is a better deal for D.C. taxpayers. Didn’t she already do that by voting yes late last year? I get a little worried whenever I see her name in the Nats section of the paper.

I am shocked — shocked that a columnist from Rev. Moon’s paper would take a position like this on potential Nats investor George Soros.
NOTEBOOK – Team Takes An Interest In Graves – The Post
Speaking of shocking, the Nats are interested in a former Reds, reliever Danny Graves, who was cut last month after an altercation with a fan. The reminds me, is there anyone affiliated with the Nationals who were not once parts of the Reds or Orioles organizations?

Temporary oasis? – The Wash. Times
Thom Loverro’s tour of the Nats minor league parks stops in Harrisburg, home of the AA Senators. Not shockingly, one of the themes of the article is that Harrisburg may not be a Nats affiliate for long as they want to be AAA and the Orioles, just down I-83, want to be the ones who make it happen. I would like the Nats to be the ones who promote the Senators to AAA, if only to spite Peter Angelo$.
I have been on City Island, home of the Senators ballpark before, but never for a game. It does seem like a great setting for a park. Eventually, I imagine I will get there.
