A big thanks from
WWN to the Pittsburgh Steelers for ensuring that Indianapolis and their brand of climate control, green carpet football will not ruin the postseason. Pittsburgh’s victory was not only a triumph for real football, but also real cities. Indy is just a big square in the middle of an unremarkable state, while Pittsburgh helped build this great nation with steel that it produced for generations. It gave us Heinz ketchup too, while Indy has just given us a bunch of cars driving around in a circle. Here’s more:
The Steelers themselves are a proud franchise that reflects the history of the city they live in, while the Colts history is stolen from a city that their crazed owner abandoned in the middle of the night.
The Steelers best teams had great characters — a vet, a ballet dancer, a man with “mean” in his name, all led by an innocent rustic at QB.
Indy’s best teams have been led by a quarterback named Peyton.
The Steelers quarterback, Ben Roth made a game/season saving tackle after a fumble.
The Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning, whined during his press conference that “we had some problems in protection.”
The Steelers owner, Dan Rooney is a pillar of his community and in the NFL Hall of Fame. His father, Art, was a thorougholy decent and humble man who is remembered fondly in Pittsburgh and was loved by everyone in the league.
The Colts owner, Jim Irsay had to go through detox. His father, Bob was a raving lunatic who lectured the fans and media at a “welcome to town” pep rally about how the team belonged to him and not the fans. His name is the most hated in all of Baltimore.
So, good job Steelers, thanks for keeping it real. It is on to Denver next week and hopefully it will be snowing.
May the Colts never win as long as an Irsay owns that team.
More from Post-Gazette: Steelers win a nail-biter, 21-18
UPDATE: The Post’s Michael Wilbon has a great column on the game, reminding us that Mike Vanderjagt earned the “idiot kicker” moniker after saying that Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy could never lead Indy to victory. Vanderjagt made sure he did his part to remain prophetic. What a Gonzo Bowl! I wish I could have seen more of it.
