For Kearns, Nats’ Win Is Still Painful to Watch – The Post
RF Austin Kearns is second-guessing himself about the collision that bruised his ankle and broke Nick Johnson‘s femur. He strikes me as much more sensitive than the average ballplayer.
On the diamond, Beltran Perez had another strong start, outdueling Tom Glavine. Over 6 1/3 innings, Perez gave up only two runs. He did give up six walks though, which is troubling.

St. Claire Is Released From Hospital – The Post
Randy St. Claire is feeling better, having been hospitalized with pneumonia. It is still unknown if he will return to his duties as pitching coach this season.
The final homestand of the year begins tonight with the Fleas coming into town looking for the wild card. The season series between D.C. and Philly is tied which means the “mayor’s bet” between me and the Ombudsman is too. We’ll know by Thursday whether I win a trip to Jim’s Steaks or if he gets to go to Ben’s Chili Bowl.
