Washington 12 CINCINNATI 7 (ESPN Boxscore)
I turned last night’s game off when the Nats were up 9-2 in the 7th. Saul Rivera had just walked in a run. I wake up this morning to find out that they bullpen gave up a total of six runs in the last three innings which is quite troubling. The Nats picked up another three runs too. What a crazy ballpark.
Ryan Church was the latest Nat to have a career game last night. He had two homers and six RBI; I guess his forearm bruise isn’t hurting him too much.
Brian Schneider and Ryan Zimmerman each had homers. Jason Simontacchi pitched 5 1/3 to get the win. He would have liked to have stayed in longer.
Kyle Lohse got tagged for 7 runs over 4 2/3 to earn the loss for the Reds.

Congratulations Barry Bonds, Jim Bowden tells a reporter (The Wash. Examiner) that you are the best.
Jesus Colome used to throw 100 m.p.h. fastballs. After he was let go by the lowly Devil Rays he decided that maybe he ought to try “pitching.” With a slider and a change-up added to his repertoire and new mechanics, Colome has become the Nats winningest pitcher (The Wash. Times).
Austin Kearns has been in a slump (The Post), but don’t expect him to get a day off. He has started all but one game this season and wound up playing in the one he didn’t. He went 2 for 4 last night, but I think he needs a day off. Express has more on him too.
Last night’s win dropped the Reds into a tie for last in the NL (Cincy Enquirer) with Washington. The way the Nats have been playing I haven’t thought of them as a last place team as of late.
