After Tim Redding gave up four runs over four ineffective innings, the Nationals turned around and ruined the homecoming of P Brian Lawrence. The rest of the Mets did there part too, committing four errors. When the final pitch was thrown the Nats had scored 12 unanswered runs, matching their all-time RFK Stadium high. Ryan Church, Wily Mo Pena, Ronnie Belliard and Brian Schneider all had two RBI.

Good news, VP of baseball operations Mike Rizzo and veteran scout Bill Singer were just in the far east for two weeks. While the Nats have tapped into the Latin America market, they have not done anything in Asia yet.

Thom Loverro of The Wash. Times wants to see a reconciliation between the Nationals and Frank Robinson, who is in town this week. I don’t feel strongly one way or another.

Several Capitals were at the game (The Wash. Times) last night:

They also got a tour of the home clubhouse at RFK. Not sure what was more surprising: that the Caps players seemed impressed by the less than modern facilities or that the guy showing them around was left-hander Ross Detwiler, who has been in the major leagues all of two weeks.

Maybe next time, someone other than a rookie ought to do the tour.
