Odalis Pérez holding out; Bergmann to the bullpen; Flores wants to be an All-Star

Pérez, Not in Camp, Reportedly Wants Better DealThe Post
Perez refusing to reportThe Wash. Times
Odalis Pérez, who started the Nationals Park opener, is holding out. He now believes that agreeing to a minor league deal with the Nationals was a mistake and that the club should show more appreciation. Perhaps, but the time for that is before you agree to a contract. Now, nothing is signed, so he is within his rights to do this but the Nationals are also within their rights to remove the offer. I kind of expect that to happen if Perez does not change his tune with in the next few days.

This will probably be spun against the Nationals. For one thing, Jim Bowden is saying that Perez has “signed terms sheet that has been confirmed by the players’ association” and Major League Baseball’s labor relations department.” However, the MLBPA database of approved contracts apparently does not reflect Bowden’s statement. Shocking, I know.

Jason Bergmann, who was told he was headed to the bullpen yesterday, may have now opportunity to fight for a spot in the rotation again due to the Pérez situation.

Nationals’ Flores Is Bent on ImprovingThe Post
C Jesus Flores wants to be an All-Star this year and is working with Pat Corrales, the deposed bench coach who stayed on as a spring instructor, to reach that goal. Flores reputation was stronger than his actual performance last year and now entering his third MLB season, the time to improve is now.
