The shared hockey history between Washington and Montreal

While the Washington Capitals and Montréal Canadiens have never met in the playoffs, the two cities have some hockey history with each other. The SB Canadiens Nation blog Habs Eyes On The Prize has a great post up about the shared hockey history between the two cities. Obviously, the trade that brought Rod Langway, Craig Laughlin and others to the Washington Capitals is covered in detail. That prompted Dan Steinberg, who could pass for a lifelong Washingtonian at this point, to get the D.C. take on the trade on D.C. Sports Bog.

In the 1940s, the Canadiens sponsored the AHL Lions, who played at Uline Arena, since renamed Washington Colosseum and now being used for parking. You can see it from a Northeast Corridor/Red Line trains. Further research found this DCSportsChick post about them too.
