Stephen Strasburg injures his right forearm in Washington Nationals’ win over Philadelphia Phillies – The Post
Strasburg Pulled With Strained Forearm – CSN Washington
Oh no! In the fifth inning Washington Nationals Stephen Strasburg grimaced after throwing a pitch to the Phillies Dominic Brown. My instant reaction — Strasburg will be going to Birmingham to visit Dr. James Andrews, renowned sports medicine surgeon. Initial indications point to the strained flexor tendon; an MRI is scheduled today in D.C.
In 4 1/3 innings pitched, Strasburg had 6 strikeouts, allowed 2 hits, 1 run and walked no one. He was only 56 pitches into his start. Home plate umpire Brian O’Nora said he heard a pop, but Brown did not. The rookie asked to stay in, but the Nats were not having that at all. Nor should they at this point, I think Strasburg needs to be protected from himself sometimes.
Strasburg’s teammates gave him a cushion to work with in the 1st inning with 3 runs off of Kyle Kendrick. Ian Desmond singled, Adam Dunn walked and Ryan Zimmerman moved them over. Two consecutive walks to Roger Bernadina and Adam Kennedy sent Desmond home. Ivan Rodriguez finished the damage with a 2-run single to put the Nats up 3-0. A leadoff double by Zimmerman in the 4th and two straight singles put the Nats up 4-0. Strasburg later knocked in his first run.
Roger Bernadina hit a 3-run homer in the 9th to put the Nats up 8-1. In all, it was one of the finest performances of the season for Washington as the offense was hot, Strasburg’s abbreviated start was strong and the bullpen extended its scoreless streak to 11 2/3 innings.
The win also pulled the Nats to within 1 of Philadelphia in the annual Cheesesteak/Half-Smoke Challenge.
