PENNS GROVE, N.J. — On my recent trip down the Shore, I was planning on picking up an official New Jersey map. It’s been a while since I got one and wanted to what’s different, etc. Reading maps is fun!
My first attempt was at the Interstate 295 northbound rest area near milepost 3. No luck!
On my last day, I had a sidequest down the Garden State Parkway from Long Beach Island to Avalon.
The Frank Sinatra Service Area (nee Atlantic City Service Area) didn’t have any, though there was a wall display about Hoboken’s favorite son.
Down at the former Cape May Service Area, no maps either. Also, the new namesake, Bruce Willis12, was not celebrated as much as the Chairman of the Board further up the Parkway. Yippy-kai-NAY?
Lastly, I tried ordering online and was also unsuccessful.

What’s going on, Jersey?
- Wikipedia says Bruce Willis grew up in Carneys Point Township, so the I-295 rest area would be more appropriate to name after him than the former Cape May Service Area. However, the NJ DOT doesn’t name rest areas (with excecption) and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority does. ↩︎
- The “other” Bruce declined the honor (nj.com) for the former Asbury Park Service Area. ↩︎
