Pre-pandemic, Ski PA offered a snow pass for 4th and 5th graders. I bought it for my older son both years he was eligible. However, post-pandemic the “program was no longer working for all of our member ski areas” and it was discontinued.
Now, there is a new offering called the PA Outdoor Adventure Pass. It’s less extensive for snow sports, but includes other activities like hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc. Not bad for $69. If my younger son hadn’t aged out, I’d be inclined to get it.
There are limitations, varying by ski area. Peak times are limited at places like Camelback1, but other than blackout dates like three day weekends, are good at Montage. Blue Knob on the other hand, allows Sunday – Friday. Each location has its own restrictions, so review before signing up. Also, none of the “close” ski areas to DC are included, so overnight lodging is probably a consideration. If you have a place to stay or a willingness have long travel days, this is a good option.
Hey Virginia – how about a similar program for 7th and 8th graders, starting next year?
